...spring & the four seasons...

Today I am looking at previous studies I have made, as in this sketch of apple blossom, while I work on one of my new projects ‘The Four Seasons’.  This ongoing series will contemplate the seasons in art, writing and adornment, and explore the different experiences each season creates with its own mood and atmosphere throughout the year.  In Australia and the southern hemisphere spring is now with us, and it is my favourite time of year, bringing sunshine, blue skies, birds, flowers, and a feeling of fresh, new beginnings.  Light and colour return to my studio, my biggest inspirations.

I am revisiting one of my earlier photographs from 2012 of garden gate shadows at night, for Halloween today.  Mysterious images are rarely planned, as they rely on the interplay of light and shadow at any given moment, and it is this factor of capturing the unknown, the unexpected and the unexplained which attracts me to experimenting with photography.  Working spontaneously with an idea, without thinking about it, or planning it in any way beforehand, has created surprising images and interpretations of what is before me, with the results being as much about what is sensed, as what is seen.
